Grey population explosion
February 7, 2009 | By Kim Walker
Although China and India are not countries often mentioned in the context of ageing populations, the sheer size of total population dwarfs the G7 countries. I thought this chart from The Economist made the point very dramatically – and yet it’s only focussing on the 65 and above!
Although India still has one of the youngest average ages, the one-child policy in China is pushing her to be one of the fastest ageing societies in the world.
In fact, China current 50+ population is 388,766,000 or 28.94% of total population. By 2028, this will rise to a staggering 621,489,000 or 46.38%!!
Why then is is so difficult to convince business of this need and opportunity? When will we reach the tipping point that will make them ‘wake up’!?
